Leadership & Responsibility as 21st Century Skills
Hello everyone!
Welcome to my blogspot again. Today, we are going to talk about two important 21st century skills that are leadership and responsibility and explain them briefly. Let's start!
Leadership
From the point of my view, everyone cannot have or achieve this skill because it has many elements in it such as being good at communication, solution-oriented thinking, having a charismatic leadership that offers a solution, being creative, and most importantly being positive.
I think that a good leader is the one who is skilled at intellectualizing the opinions and concerns of the group members and then presenting an effective solution. A leader listens to the group member objectively and establishes a meaningful communication link between each other and then the leader speaks clearly about whether this is a serious problem to deal with or not. While explaining that, he/she uses his/her communication skills as efficient as possible. If it is a serious drawback, he/she finds out a solution after an effective reasoning which we see the importance of creativity. In order to fix the drawback, leaders think in a creative way by observing the situations, trying to find different ways of solving it, guessing what can happen after solving the drawback.
As prospective English teachers, we should use these skills as much as possible to be a savior for our students and to fix their issues and most importantly, to help them make progress at the highest rate. At this point, I consider the technology as a prime assistant to use our leadership in an effective way. For example, if a student has difficulty understanding the feedback that we gave, we can present a video or prepare a short information that is covered with visual things. To make sure that the students have comprehended what we have just covered, we can introduce some digital tools that make the information fun and gamify what we have just taught. So, in this situation, creativity and solution-oriented thinking welcome us.
Responsibility
To my way of thinking, responsibility has two different meanings. The first one is something that requires determination to do something frequently without thinking of delaying doing it. The second one is what we take responsbility when we fail to do something in a decisive way. If we review this issue, we can easily realize that it has something to do with leadership that we have in ourselves, namely perseverance. When we have decided to do something that will be beneficial for us, we should take responsibility and do it whatever it takes for us but if we fail to do what we promised to do, then we should bear the consequences and then create solutions accordingly.
It is the same for us as prospective teachers. Being a teacher should never be taken for granted. We should never do our job in a reckless way just like the ones who give a lecture, do not care about the students' problems and go home. We should take responsbility and try to do everything for the sake of our students' improvement. As a responsibility, we can ask ourself what we can bring to the class not to teach monotonously. So, it is in our hands to create things that will substantially be beneficial for our students.
One of the important things that we should never forget is to take care of our students in every situations. For instance, when a student talks about a problem, we should never think like it is something that is noncrucial. Instead, we should take everything into consideration and try to do our best in the way of solving that problem. So, at this point, we can clearly see the importance of responsibility.
